The uber-talented illustrative duo, Jolby, have recently teamed up with f-stop maven, Ashley Forrette, to produce a series of works for their upcoming gallery show, Sea Legs. It’s time for the Communication Arts 51st annual photography competition. Every year this competition showcases some of the most compelling photographers from around the world. Deadline for submissions is March 26, 2010. Here are a few words from the Comm Arts site:
Enter the most prestigious competition for creativity in photography, the Communication Arts Photography Competition. Any photograph first printed or produced within the last twelve months prior to the deadline is eligible. Selected by a nationally representative jury of distinguished designers, art directors and photographers, the winning entries will be distributed worldwide in the Communication Arts Photography Annual and on commarts.com, assuring important exposure to the creators of this outstanding work.

I think there is a little bit of harmless voyeurism in all of us. Why else would the National Enquirer outsell most local newspapers across the country? For us, we have always been all about the artistic work spaces. There is something about peering into the private areas of the creative individual that has always fascinated us. “What is that poster they have on their wall?” “What is in that stack of cds sprawled across their desk?” “Is that a copy of Yotsuba&! on their shelf?” Peering into the hives of fellow creatives inspires and informs—a trait that today’s feature has taken to heart.
The Selby is a photography site unlike just about any other that we’ve come across to date. Several times a month they venture into the hidden rooms, back closets and private studio spaces of creative types from all over the world and photograph all of their beautiful chaos in stunning clarity. There are no A-list celebrities here for the most part (the most famous person on the site so far has been the home of Michael Stipe and Thomas Dozol), just hard-working, art loving individuals who are driven by the need to create. They open up their homes and The Selby unabashedly shows the nooks and crannies of their everyday lives.
The site is a must on our weekly reading list, and we freely admit that we often find our selves fawning over the knick-knacks and treasures revealed in these alluring photographic essays.
